The Galapagos Islands are best visited between December and May, with warmer waters and abundant marine life during breeding season. Birdwatching is prime from September to February in the cloud forests of Ecuador and Peru, with vibrant avian displays and migratory birds.

Patagonia’s trekking season runs from December to February, while May to September is perfect for hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Water sports enthusiasts can surf year-round in places like Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil, with peak surfing from December to February. Diving is best from December to June in the Galapagos and August to November in Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha.
Best Time to Visit for Cultural and Historical Highlights
February’s Carnival celebrations in Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay and Semana Santa (Easter) festivities in March/April are standout cultural highlights. Peru offers year-round festivals, including Inti Raymi on June 24th and the Qoyllur Rit’i pilgrimage in May/June. For ancient ruins like Machu Picchu and Bolivia’s Tiwanaku, visit during the dry season from May to September.
